Gardening with Grandmom

| October 15, 2017

My mom always has these flowers in her garden called grape hyacinths. Sam has loved them ever since she was a tiny little girl. She picks them constantly. My mom promised her that she’d buy her some bulbs and they would plant them at our house so that she could have her own. The bulbs came and it is fall, so it’s time for bulb planting!

My mom helped a bit but she made Sam do most of the work digging and planting. That’s what young knees are for!

In case you don’t know, here is what they look like.

Sam did have fun digging in the dirt. I really hope they come up well next year. She’ll be so disappointed if they don’t. She even planted some around the fairy house so they had something pretty. Keep your fingers crossed!

Fireman Sam

| October 13, 2017

The firehouse had its annual open house, which we hadn’t been to in years. Sam really wanted to go this year so I took her down. She did the usual activities, got some trinkets, looked at all the firetrucks and whatnot. It’s not exactly a thrill a minute, but she likes it. Here’s Fireman Sam!

A bunch of the other municipalities always bring a truck of their own to the open house and it’s interesting to see the differences in the trucks. Sam was aghast at the Media fire truck’s logo. She was hysterical – “Oh my God, what kind of sign is that? The whole town is burning down! How lovely! Why would anyone want to see that?….” and on and on she went. Well, she’s got a point. It is kind of creepy!

Spookifying the House

| October 8, 2017

Sam loves Halloween and sadly, I do not. The only part about it I like is seeing her in her costume. That is adorable. The rest of it…meh. Not my thing. I try to let the holiday skid by with as little effort as possible, but Sam is never having it. We must decorate! Sam managed to keep our decorations contained to just the living room, which I am happy about.

Decorating for Sam includes her doll house. She loves decorating it for every holiday she can. She’s got a strange sense of humor, my little one! Note the ghost riding horse is trampling Barbie?

I personally think the ghost in the coffin is pretty cute.

I guess a ghost in the shower is better than a Psycho-type surprise, right?

She came up with the cutest ideas. The ghost scaring the baby is adorable. I love how the baby’s arms are up like she’s screaming.

We always hang some light up necklaces around and since Sam had more ghosts, well…

We had a sort of mucky weather weekend so I suggested that we make some sticker pictures with the multitude of Halloween stickers she has. Sam loved the idea, and I did too since it meant I could just sit on the couch for a while. 🙂 We literally spent hours making these, and it was the most fun I’d had doing crafts with her in ages. She really added a ton of little details, so many of which are really funny. You have to look closely to see a lot of them. These are some busy pictures!

This one is a Halloween party…

A graveyard…

A pumpkin patch…

A spooky forest…

A spooky house…

A witch’s bedroom…

A spooky kitchen…

And a spooky school…

We gave three of the pictures to Grandmom since our refrigerator isn’t big enough to hold them all! Come on Halloween! We are all ready, let’s go!

The Fairies Have Moved In!

| October 7, 2017

If you recall, Sam made the cutest fairy house. Every day she checks to see if anything is different so she will know if the fairies moved in. It appears they have! Sam has noticed that inside the house, there were some acorn cap pillows on the bed and also, a little hollowed out acorn containing some flowers. There were also a ton of flowers on the garden bench, so they must have been busy. The fairies also picked one of Sam’s flowers and put it in the house.

Since they were living inside, Sam decided to make them a garden. Here it is!

She planted flowers, lettuce, strawberries, and cauliflower. She hopes they like it!

Who knows what those crazy fairies will do next while she is at school!

Family Fun Day

| October 2, 2017

Yesterday was the second annual Springfield Family Fun Day. We do like this event because it’s fun, but it also is nice that it happens literally at the end of our street! Can’t beat that. There is good food, music, face painting, horse riding, and a bunch of other fun stuff. Sam bought some doll clothes again (well, WE bought some doll clothes) from the vendor who makes the cutest American Girl doll-style outfits. It turns out, the woman is the grandmother of her friend, Lina, who lives down the street! Who knew?

Here is Sam on her horse. The line is always forever long, but she loves it.

We did visit all the vendors and ate some good food, but the highlight, for sure, was zip-lining! We wanted Sam to try it and she told us no way! We didn’t really care one way or another, but we do like to see her be brave once in a while. We were just passing by on our way back from looking at the antique cars on display when her friend, Erin, stepped out of the line for the zip line and asked Sam if she would go with her and be her partner. Just like that, Sam said, “ok” like it was no big deal. Sometimes all it takes is a friend.

Sam and Erin got all strapped in and before we knew it, they went zooming along!

Sam really liked it! After we did a couple more things, Sam asked me if I would zip line with her. How could I say no? What a memory that will make. Here are Sam and I all ready to go.

And we are off! It is really high when you are on top of the platform. It’s a little scary, to be honest, but when you start to go, it’s a blast!

What a great time! I hope Sam always remembers it, flying through the sky down the street from her house. Crazy! This was a new thing this year, and I wonder if it will be back next year – I hope so!
