Pasta, Pasta, Pasta!

| December 9, 2017

This year we decided to keep things easy and make homemade pasta for Christmas dinner instead of raviolis. It’s a bit of a break from tradition, but…with time comes new things. We all want to hold on to traditions that we hold dear, but the idea is to make those traditions our own. Because it is so much work to make the ravioli, and the kids are always fussy about them anyway, coupled with the fact that everyone likes pasta, we thought that was the road to go down. To me, the important thing is that we all are having the Italian meal together, as a family. And we are. Krista offered to host dinner at her house, and also the pasta making. We weren’t sure how well it was going to work out, getting to Krista and Adam’s because of the snow, but we made it!

Sam couldn’t wait to help. She poured the egg and water mixture in the machine (and half of it spilled all over the place), so we had a rocky start, but eventually…

…it worked! Here come the rigatonis!

The whole process went really smoothly. The rigatoni came out looking great, there was little muss and fuss, and we are all pretty excited to be eating our own homemade pasta.

Mostly, we had Sam and Maddox lay the rigatoni out to dry, but there were so many, we all had to chip in a bit and help.

Ta da! Christmas dinner.

We finished up so quickly! We had lots of time to just hang out.

And also have Krista’s birthday cake! Sam actually tried a piece of the angel food cake but she said she didn’t like it. Crazy child! Happy Birthday, Aunt Krista!

Sam’s crazy kitty

| December 9, 2017

Penny is one wacky cat. I think that’s one of the many reasons Sam, and all of us, love her. She is always making us laugh. She is a good little cat, but she’s mischievous. Sam was in the tub, and I was putting clean laundry away. I left my pajama drawer open and Penny climbed in. Now, this is not unusual. She likes to sleep on top of pajamas since Sam and I both have a ton of fleecy ones for the winter. I yelled to Sam that her crazy cat literally threw some of my pajamas out of the drawer so she had more room. Thankfully, Sam was pretty much done bathing because she couldn’t get out of the tub fast enough to see crazy Penny.

I told Sam I was going to grab the camera so I could take Penny’s picture. When I got upstairs I didn’t see Penny in the drawer. All I saw was pajamas. I asked Sam where Penny went, and with a weird look on her face, she said, “Oh…she’s in there.” I finally figured out that Penny had gone behind the drawer and into the actual bureau.

I had to pull the drawer completely out to find Penny. We had a hard time getting her to come out!

And in the further adventures of Penelope, we have been storing a new toy of hers which is basically a butterfly on a stick on top of the record cabinet when not playing with it so that she doesn’t chew it up. Well, Penny decided she really wanted her toy.

She jumped from the top of the chair to the top of the record cabinet. That crazy cat had Sam hysterical laughing so many times!

Oh, Snow!

We got our first snow of this winter (even though technically it’s still FALL, Mother Nature!) Sam could not have been happier. We got about 4 inches, which isn’t bad for a first snow. My happy little snow bunny. Where she gets her love of the cold, white stuff, I have no idea!
