Mother’s Day

| May 16, 2018

Mother’s Day! And I can always count on my cutie to make my day special. We had really wanted to go down the shore again this year since last year was so amazing, but it rained. Boo. We decided on a nice quiet day at home, and a tasty dinner. Mark said he would grill me and mom some steaks. Yum!

Sam had everything wrapped up beautifully. She did it all herself.

My first gift was a necklace with some little birds on it representing our family. I love it!

The only thing I could think that I wanted this year as a gift was a new iPhone. So, I ran out that morning and got one. Sam was prepared and bought me a new phone case. It is so pretty. It has little birds and says, “I love you Mom.”

This is the gift they made at school. She decorated the envelope herself.

Inside was a sheet that was called, “Top 10 Reasons Why I Love My Mom.” My favorite was the first one. I love my Mom because she reads me chapter books. Reading is so important to me, and to Sam. I am glad she enjoys that time we spend together every night. Her class had a special project where each family was supposed to write out a family recipe on a sheet sent home. It was all very top secret! Sam worked with Mark and they sent it the sfinge recipe for the cookbook. It’s a nice keepsake, not only for me, but for Sam someday.

Sam had a special something for Mark too. She had been working on a painting for him for his birthday and it wasn’t done in time, but here it is!

The three girls! We look like we are dressed for winter. Stupid weather…

The kitties gift was a bit delayed, but it finally arrived all the way from England! A necklace of two cats sitting together, one big and one small, just like my babies.

I had a great Mother’s Day. I am so lucky. I have an amazing mom, an amazing daughter. All the things that make Mother’s Day special. 🙂

More Birthday celebrations

| May 12, 2018

Today is Mark’s actual birthday, so we definitely needed to celebrate. We made a second cake, no real decorations this time, much to Sam’s dismay. Lots of candles though!

While we were at Brickfest, we found this cool poster that is the same Lego astronaut figures that Mark had as a kid. Sam gave this, and some cool Lego astronaut stickers, to Mark as his gift.

Mark wasn’t too sure about the kitty swim trunks the cats got him! Ha! Let’s see if we can get him to wear these this summer! Happy Birthday!!

Scenic Art Showcase

| May 10, 2018

Sam’s school has an art showcase every year and she has been talking about it pretty much since September. Art is definitely her thing. She loved having an art show in preschool and at her kindergarten/first grade they didn’t have anything (which they should!) so this was a real highlight for her. They have been working on projects for the show all year in art class. I did some volunteering to do the prep work, mounting pictures and so on, and I always hoped I’d get a sneak peek at some of Sam’s work, but I always seemed to have fourth and fifth grade art to work on.

When the day finally arrived I thought Sam was going to burst with excitement! She just about dragged us down the hall to find her art first. This scarecrow they made in the fall. She was very disappointed that she couldn’t bring it home at the time, but she loved seeing it displayed now.

This is her color wheel.

Do you think she is proud?

I did get a sneak peek at her name poster one day when I was guest reader. It was already hanging a few days before the show. I would bet this one is going to be hanging in her room when it comes home! She has been really into personalizing her room lately, hanging things up, applying wall decals, etc. She is getting older now and she definitely is trying to make the room her own.

We walked every hallway to see the displays. Some of the kids are very good!

Outside the second grade classrooms there were pictures of the kids. We spied this one, with guess who making a guest appearance! It always kills me. I am at the school so much more than Mark, but who gets to be famous? Not me!

I was happy to see this picture from her class trip to the police station because I couldn’t be a part of her trip. They look happy (and cold!)

After seeing all the art, we went to the ecology center to see the baby ducks. Sam was super excited about the babies. She can see the ecology center from her classroom window so the kids are always sneaking a peek!

She is always asking me about drawing and really, really wants to take lessons. I have been looking for someone to teach her, but no luck yet. I am going to keep working on it. I loved to draw when I was young and sadly got out of doing it. Sam is not into dance, or gymnastics, or sports, or anything like that and I really want her to have some sort of interest. If it’s art, great. I want to help her to grow in anyway I can. She has her drawing table now, which she has wanted for a while, and now we just need to give her a real incentive to use it. Maybe she will be famous one day!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

| May 6, 2018

Yesterday we had Mark’s birthday celebration! Outside! Shocking! I can’t believe the weather cooperated because it never ever does. It turned out to be such a nice day. We brought a bunch of lawn games for everyone to play, had hoagies and Chick-fil-a nuggets, and a cake, of course! Everyone had a great time just hanging out, talking, playing games and enjoying the nice day.

Not surprisingly, Sam loved the playground. She and Ryder had a good time goofing around. She likes to jump on the ramp and Mark joined right in.

Ryder always likes when Sam is around because she plays all his games. Sam likes being in charge of her little cousin too, which always makes me laugh. She is so great with little kids. She’ll be a good babysitter one day.

Uh oh! Ryder is stuck!

After playing for a while, Sam wanted to show everyone the tree with the big hole. I love these pictures of the cousins walking in the woods.

Not bears, but just as cute!

Let’s see how many people can fit in this tree….

Room for one more?

Mark lifted Maddox up to look out the “window”. He had to pretty much get on Mark’s shoulders but it was worth it.

Look at the smile! What kid would like to do that?

Sam’s turn!

There were a million dandelions around and most had gone to seed. The kids were blowing them all over the place. Nope. No allergies for me today. Ugh.

Mark, Krista, and Rich took the kids for a short nature walk. I think all kids need more time in nature. They are always so cooped up. Sam loves being outside and we really need to get her out more. She seems quite at home wandering the woods.

Back to the playground!

Sam and Maddox were trying to outdo each other on who could do the craziest thing on the equipment. We are lucky neither of them broke their necks. Crazy kids!

Maddox found a good climbing tree and Sam went right up after him. Of course, Maddox got down no problem and Sam got kind of stuck. Maddox and I were trying to tell her how to step and she was totally freaked out. We thought about leaving her there to live with the birds and squirrels, but eventually helped her figure it out.

Take Your Kid to Work Day had just happened, and at Krista’s job, they had made homemade bubble solution. She brought a bunch to the park for the kids. They loved it! Sam loves bubbles and homemade ones with huge wands? What’s not to like?

Poor Grandmom got covered in bubble mix quite a few times.

Somehow Maddox tripped and wound up falling into the storage bin! It was so funny. I am glad he thought so too!

Here is Mark’s cake, which Sam decorated. She did a great job!

Happy Birthday! Sam is the luckiest girl to have her dad, and she knows it.

PSSA Fun Day

| May 4, 2018

Today was PSSA Fun day at school. The Home & School sets up an event to give the kids a fun day after spending so much time on the standardized tests. Even though the second graders don’t take the PSSAs, their schedule is altered a bit because of the other grades taking the tests so they get to participate. There were a number of stations, most with some sort of inflatable, and I volunteered to help out. This was my station. Can you believe this crazy thing?  have never seen such a large inflatable in my life. It was literally like an obstacle course inside with things to climb over, go around and slide on. My job was basically to tell the pairs of kids when to go in so they would be timed right and not all in there at the same time.

Here’s Sam! She said it was really hard to do some of it, mostly because it was horribly hot that day and they were all sweaty and sticky. She had a blast though! I was wondering what she thought about the PSSAs and if she was dreading it or didn’t really care. She doesn’t seem to be that stressed about it happening next year, which is good. She doesn’t like tests, even though she usually does pretty well. I tried to emphasize that they are not anything to worry about and I think the school does a good job of that too. We’ll see next year!
