So This is 9

Posted By on September 23, 2018

This is 9. Funny, smart, intuitive, helpful, but also bossy, opinionated, and infuriating! We love you Samantha! You have all of those qualities and more. You are changing so much every single day. We see you growing physically, mentally and emotionally and can’t believe how lucky we are to have you, even when you make us crazy!

For your 9th birthday, you were so excited, you didn’t want to wait until your actual birthday to open your presents, so we let you open most of them the day before, when we were having your family dinner. Because you are our little fashionista, you got some grown up looking clothes, including the long boyfriend sweater you couldn’t wait to put on.

You are currently fascinated with Mary Poppins and because you are having a Mary Poppins themed birthday, we got you a Mary Poppins charm bracelet.

Your kitties want you to have the best birthday ever, because they love you as much as you love them!

Well, Zach does love you, even if he isn’t always the easiest to hug. 😉

You always pose just right for your pictures, when you aren’t being too silly. This pose was your idea completely.

Every year you become more beautiful, both inside and out.The whole world gets to see how beautiful you are on the outside, but only those closest to you see the complete and real you. We are so lucky.

Your mom and GG love you more than you will ever know.

And your Dad thinks you are the most amazing little girl in the world.

When we all got together for dinner, it was time for more gifts! A gift card to Justice (so you can by more clothes…since you won’t let me pick much anymore).

And a ukulele! Exactly the one you wanted. Bright and colorful, just like you.

Your Mary Poppins cake, not that you will eat anything but the frosting!

We did save a few gifts for your actual birthday, the Boogie Board you were ogling in Staples…

Some special stickers that say just how cool we think you are…

And your new grown up watch! Pink!

One of your favorite gifts was your disco light, so you can be the true rock star you are.

Happy Birthday, our dear girl. We know you are going to keep amazing us every single day. Just keep being you!

Penny the Homework Helper

Sam is not a huge fan of homework, so thankfully, this year there is less than last year. That seems insane to me that she has less homework in a higher grade, but whatever, I am just happy there is less to fight about!

Penny thought Sam could use some help. Not sure how helpful she is being, but she is good company!

Happy Birthday to Mommy!

Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me! As usual, my incredible family gave me a wonderful birthday. I got great gifts including this adorable picture. The sweater Sam is wearing was a gift from my boss. She tried to steal it. I told her she could steal it momentarily…

Sam got me a new Pandora charm for my bracelet, which she knows I love.

I have been wanting a clock for our living room and Mark found this one. I love it!

When my mom came over, she brought the gift that Sam had been working on furiously at her house. I love it and my creative girl.

We were serenaded later by Sam who had a special treat for me. She is getting so good on her guitar. Mark had been working with Sam for a long time on learning how to play Happy Birthday, and I was so incredibly proud of her. I will never forget it.

Mark took a video after one of their many practice sessions so I would always have it. Enjoy!

We chilled out a bit, all the ladies in their kitty shoes!

After dinner, it was (finally) cake time! My mom made my favorite, and Sam decorated it.

Sam may not be ready yet, but Zach is!

Snooping Around at School

Posted By on September 13, 2018

It’s back to school night  when we get to see Sam’s classroom and meet her teacher. It is always a fun night because we get to snoop around her room and see where she will spend her day. This year will be extra fun for me, at least, because I am the lead homeroom parent! I never thought about being a homeroom parent before last year, when I sort of volunteered late in the game. I didn’t get picked, and I was disappointed, so this year I was determined to volunteer early in hope that I get picked. We are all told that it is a lottery, but honestly, I don’t believe it. I think the first people who volunteer get picked. Well, no matter what the process is, I got picked! Sam is SO EXCITED. By being homeroom mom, I get to be at (and plan) all of her class parties and go on her field trips.

When we got there, we found Sam’s desk and this picture. Miss McCray, her teacher, had taken one of all the kids.

We walked around the room to find some of the things they had been working on already and I was surprised to find this. She really warms my heart although I wish she had drawn some hair on top of my head!

We liked reading what she wrote about herself. It’s always enlightening to see how they see themselves.

I am really looking forward to this year. I hope Samantha makes a ton of friends and doesn’t get as stressed out as she did last year. I really want her to like school as much as possible. It’s a long road ahead…
