New School Pic

School pictures came home today! Sam’s smiles are always a bit forced in school pictures, and her hair was not exactly the neatest, but she is still my beautiful girl!

Family Fun Day

Posted By on October 7, 2018

It was family fun day time in Springfield again and of course, Sam couldn’t wait to go. It’s pretty much the same every year, but I think that is the appeal of it for Sam. She knows what to expect and since she likes pretty much everything, it’s a hit with her. We started off with the horse ride and the zipline to avoid the crowds. Sam was much less nervous this year zooming down the street.

The one new thing this year was this sort of bungee bounce. The kids are strapped in and jump on this trampoline thing and boy do they soar high! Sam waned to do it but then once she got on seemed sort of nervous. Eventually she got the hang of it.

She bought more stuff for her dolls, we ate a little something, and then headed home. It was not such a long day, but it was a successful one. After we missed all the movies on the lawn this summer, she really wanted to do one of our community events. Free (other than what we buy from the vendors) and at the end of our street. Totally worth it.

The Renaissance Faire

Posted By on October 7, 2018

Mark and I took Sam to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire and as we hoped, she loved it! Many moons ago, before Mark and I were a couple, we went to the Ren Faire and had a great time. I still tell him that it was there, while watching the glass blower, that I realized I loved him. So…It is a very special place.

We urged Sam to dress in medieval garb, and since she still had her Merida costume, she wore it. It was a bit short now (wow, has she grown!) but it worked.

Sam really loved everything from seeing all the people in their costumes, to listening to people speak differently, to the music.

She is very into Harry Potter right now, so anything to do with dragons or magic was right up her alley. Oh, and notice the fairy wings? Yup, those are new. She couldn’t wait to put them on.

We wound up buying her a little dragon of her very own.

Surprise, surprise, there was not much there that Sam would eat, but we did find some treats that we all enjoyed. I had chocolate dipped cheesecake, Mark had chocolate dipped strawberries and Sam had chocolate dipped marshmallows!

She was starting to get a bit grumpy and annoying because she was hungry, so I was glad that we found something she’d like, especially something full of sugar for energy!

We stopped for a picture with a unicorn. Sam kept saying it wasn’t real and we kept insisting it was. Well, for all her insistence that it was actually just a pony, when the unicorn dust (glitter) that was put on her hand wore off she was literally in tears.

When we finally stopped for a glass blowing demo, Sam was entranced. We wound up coming home with a few balls, and Sam talked us into a ghost and a snowman.

Sam and I tried the maze, which was way harder than I thought it would be! We got turned around so many times, but finally made it out!

One of our favorite demonstrations was the falconer. He brought the coolest birds, but in Sam’s view, the very coolest was this owl who actually made an appearance in the Harry Potter movies! Sam took this picture of him, and then only a few days later, we spotted him in the movie!

One of our last stops of the day and we put Sam in the stocks for her grumpy behavior! We thought about leaving her there, but then decided she was too cute to abandon. 🙂 Sam has already asked us if we can go back next year and we probably will. Ok, not probably, we totally will. Maybe we’ll even get lucky and be able to go on wizard weekend!

It’s a Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Kind of Party!

Yesterday was Samantha’s friend party at Busy Bees. I wasn’t sure she’d want a party there again since she has had so many, but they recently moved into a new location and that means her handprints are not on their wall so she insisted it had to be there. Everyone she invited came and it made her day.

Sam always likes a canvas party so that is what she chose. The kids all painted a cat. Sam originally wanted to paint a Mary Poppins themed canvas but after many conversations with her, she decided against it. I tried to explain to her that first of all, Busy Bees did not have a ready made design for that, and second, all her friends may not like Mary Poppins. I did promise her we would go back sometime and try to do one on our own. The girls all had a great time painting, as they usually do.

When the painting was done, it was time to party! Finding Mary Poppins party decor is not easy so I had to improvise. I made umbrella shaped cookies and in their goodie bags, each girl got a Hershey bar with a custom wrapper that I made. Sam loved the table scatter in Mary Poppins designs that was all over.

When planning the party, we discussed her cake at length. She doesn’t even eat cake and I made some offhand comment about having donuts because at least she eats those. You would have thought I said she could have a million dollars she was so excited. I told her that of course she could have donuts, she can have whatever she wants, and it totally made her day. So, presenting…her donut cake!

While the girls were eating, the disco light was going so they could dance around like maniacs after.

Time for the oh-so-important hand print!

All the little girlies. 🙂

Sam couldn’t wait to bring all her balloons home and I thought some pictures might be nice.

Hold on tight Sam, you don’t want to fly away!

Happy Birthday, Sam! I hope it was all you dreamed it would be!

Book One Done!

Samantha has been diligently going to her weekly guitar lessons with Jessica and has improved so much! She worked so hard to get through the entire first book of lessons, learning how to read music, learning notes and finger positions, and learning how to play smoothly and correctly. At the end of the book, we devised a test of sorts so that Sam could officially graduate to the next book of lessons. She had to play certain songs for Jessica without making mistakes and be tested on what certain notes of music were. I don’t ever attend the lessons with her, that is Mark’s job, but on this occasion, I made sure to come. She passed her test with flying colors! Samantha loves Jessica and worked so hard to please her. I know she will be super excited to hang her certificate on the wall of her room! Congratulations!
