Ravioli Day 2009
Posted By pamelamyers on December 13, 2009
Every year for as long as Mark and I have been together we have upheld a tradition started by his Grandma Mancini — the making of ravioli for Christmas dinner. She was a true Italian grandma in the best sense of the word. Every time you were at her house, she was trying to feed you! She cooked all the time, and was always happy to share with her family. I am really glad I got to spend the time I did with her before she passed away. The whole experience of making the ravioli wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t know what Grandma Mancini was like.
Mark and his grandma were very close, so it is really important to Mark to keep this up every year, and it has become something that we all look forward to every year, not even so much for the food that comes out of it (which is yummy), but for just spending the family time together. We have a lot of fun kidding around and talking despite the fact that it is a lot of work — we make not only enough ravioli for dinner on Christmas, but enough so that we can all eat them a few times after Christmas. I think every year it winds up being around 500 ravioli or something crazy like that. We were all looking forward to making them this year with the babies around. Everyone gathered at our house — Rich (the dough maker), Sandi, Krista, my mom, and me (the fillers/ravioli makers), and Mark and Adam (the rollers) to start making the pasta! It went really well, despite the fact that it seemed every few minutes someone had to bail from the ravioli making to tend to a bored/hungry/tired baby.
Here are some pictures. This is us before we got started, and turned into a floury mess…..We can’t wait until next year when our little munchkins can eat the fruits of our labor!
Here we are slaving away. What was it I said about being a floury mess?
Samantha helped A LOT. Whew! I don’t know what we would have done without her!
Here is but a tiny portion of the result.
Poor Samantha : ( All worn out from her busy day.
