Dentist Woes No More!

Sam’s dentist appointment was today and it is a day I dread almost more than any other. She so hates the dentist. I have no idea why. They have never done anything other than clean her teeth and take a few x-rays so it is not like she has had a painful or uncomfortable experience there.  Not to mention the fact that I have never talked about the dentist in a bad way. I never make it sound like a bad thing, and when I tell her if she doesn’t brush she will get cavities, I never say anything bad about what the treatment will entail, or anything that makes it sound like getting a cavity fixed would be a bad thing. I just tell her she’ll have to go to the dentist more often. I am very careful about what I say.

I was glad we were going, actually, because I wanted the dentist to have a look at her teeth to tell me if she has any more loose ones. I am just glad she finally lost that pesky top tooth before we went!

When the dentist came out to get us, I talked to her for a few minutes to tell her what has been going on, tooth wise, and then she told Sam to come on back and I just sort of walked back out through the door into the waiting room. I have never been able to do that before. Sam always clings to my hand and makes me sit in the exam room with her. At her age, I really shouldn’t be back there. I should have been able to leave her on her own a while ago, truthfully. So, she really surprised me. It took a while, but I figured they must have been doing x-rays (they did) and no one came to get me, so I hoped for the best.

It turned out great! Not only was she fine by herself, but the dentist said her teeth look great! Sam has been complaining about her gum where she lost the tooth, but the new one is on it’s way in and her 6 year molars are coming. No problems, no tears! Yay! I asked Sam about her visit in the car and she made it sound like it was just no big deal at all. Ah, my big girl. She had quite the handful of little prizes. I asked her why she had so many and she said, “Well, she didn’t say a number. You know, like, you can take one or two…” You know what, for no tears and an easy dentist experience, she deserves all the prizes she wants!
