Post Christmas Goings-On

Usually by now we are in the midst of the post-Christmas letdown. You know what I mean. After all the wild preparations, the present opening, the marathon of Christmas music, the family visits, it’s all usually sort of a big letdown in the days that follow. Not this year! Sam is still so incredibly excited by all of her new toys, and the decorations, and the lights, that every day feels like Christmas all over again. I guess that is why everyone says Christmas is made for children. There is nothing like experiencing the holiday through the eyes of a child. Every time I look at Sam enjoying her toys and being just so excited each minute, I remember why this holiday is so freakin’ great.
She has been such a sweetie pie lately. I think she is really loving having both Mark and I home every single day with her. I keep thinking about how our time is counting down before we have to go back to work, and truthfully, I try not to think about it because it is depressing. We are having such a great time together as a family. I wish we could do this all the time.
Tomorrow, we are going to take Sam outside in our backyard and pull her around in her new sled. She keeps looking at it like she is not exactly sure what it is, but she wants to find out!
I also wanted to share how Sam did the cutest thing yesterday. She has been walking around a lot lately (using her walking toys to hold onto). Our house looks like Toys R Us exploded in here, so I am constantly moving things out of her way so she can walk without bumping into things. I was tossing toys left and right last night and in the process, I threw her new dress up kitty under the tree. I guess Sam wasn’t too happy about that because she immediately stopped walking, scooted over to her kitty, picked it up and hugged it, and patted it on the back. It really looked like Sam thought I hurt the kitty by throwing it. I, of course, had to make a fuss over kitty by kissing it and giving it a hug too, and I told Sam it was a stunt kitty who is used to being thrown around (the things we do as parents….). It was just so cute. She really hugs her stuffed animals now. She really seems to have affection for them. All of the sudden, she is very “mommy-like” to her dolls and her animals (although she is still not that interested in dolls, she prefers her animals, which is fine with me). She really is such a sweet natured, lovable little girl.
I am having the time of my life this Christmas, and I know Mark is too. I keep thinking how fun it is going to be when Sam really understands that Santa is coming and has definite ideas about what she wants for Christmas. It is hard to believe each year will be better and better, but I know it will be. I am so lucky to have my little girl!

I love that Sam loves the Kitty toy. I bought my niece a dressy bessy one year when she was a little girl and I believe my nephew had a dressy Ben or some such boy doll. We didn’t have those kind of toys when I was young.
