Beaches and boardwalks

Posted By on August 15, 2011

Sunday was our first beach day. It couldn’t have been better.  Sam quickly got used to walking on the dry sand but she didn’t like the ocean even though it was an amazing 80 degrees!  Well, she didn’t like the water on her feet anyway. She liked looking at it and kept asking us to look at the “pool”. Just like last year, the only ocean water she liked was the tidal pools that remained during low tide. That, she loved, hanging out by the jetty. Even when I was holding her, Sam didn’t want the water swirling around her. She kept saying, Sit Sit Sit so I would go back to our chairs, back on dry land, so to speak. The only time I got her to really brave the water was when we went for a walk down the beach and arrived near the lifeguard where everyone was swimming. I told her Daddy was in there swimming with all of those people and she really wanted to see him. I was carrying her and we walked out deep enough that her feet and calves were getting wet when the waves came up and she was so focused on her Daddy that she didn’t seem to notice. After all the excitement she took a nice nap on Mommy.

Here are Sam and Maddox playing with the endless buckets of water we all had to keep bringing them from the ocean.

Sam and her Grandmom, hanging out in their chairs (Sam sort of stole hers from Grandmom).

Sam and her Daddy.  I am not sure what she was showing him, but it most likely was either a bird or a plane (but not Superman).

This little hippo chair belongs to Maddox but Sam loved it and sat in it more than he did.

At the jetty examining sea shells.

Look at that happy little face!

Nap time!  She did this about 3 days in a row.  It was hard being trapped on a beach chair, but I wouldn’t have traded the cuddles for the world.

We went to the boardwalk in Ocean City that night. Sam was crazy running down the boards and dragging us along by the hand. She couldn’t see everything fast enough. We had Mack and Manco’s pizza which she loved. Mark wanted to get her a kite so we stopped at the kite store. We waited outside since it is such a crowded store but Sam had fun playing with all the pinwheels in the front of the store. One really funny thing was when Sam saw this huge pirate on the roof of a store and she kept saying “Daddy!” We think it‘s because the pirate had a goatee. At least we hope that‘s the only reason why….

It was getting late and Sam was crashing while Mom and I had ice cream.

Here’s Sam looking at what Mark said was his favorite ride when he was little, the cars!

I liked the cars too and the boats that went around in the water.
