Sam’s 2nd Birthday

Sam’s 2nd birthday happened to be on a Friday this year which was convenient since I am off from work that day.  Although, let’s be serious, I would have taken off for my little girl’s birthday no matter what day of the week it was!  Anyway, it was really nice being home with her and being able to spend the whole day lavishing attention on her and letting her know how special the day was.  Mark was working at home, which was also great, since we all got to have lunch together, and Sam got to pop down to see him a few times during the day.

Sam started her day by cleaning house!  She uses her corn popper like a vacuum cleaner.  Oh, yes, those are my slippers she is wearing!  I love the outfit she had on, it was so fall-like.  Sam adorned it with her stickers as you can see.

Her big gift from Mark and I was a table and chairs.  She loves little chairs.  Our Carter’s store has a set and Sam spends more time rearranging the chairs and pushing them in and out than actually sitting in them, but we knew she would love it.  I think the expression on her face and the big smile says it all.  She had Grover sitting down in no time, then later Raggedy Ann and Andy.

Sam quickly got the idea and settled with a good book.

She does this all the time now when we are reading — she grabs the book and says, “Hide!” and covers her face. She stays that way until I tickle her mercilessly.

After a pizza dinner, one of Sam’s favorites, we had doughnuts in lieu of cake, since her party was the next day.  Sam picked out her very own doughnut at the supermarket that morning, one with “M’s” (what she calls M&Ms) on it.  She liked that we were singing to her.

Here are Mark and Sam blowing out her candle.  Sam did make a good whoosh but she needed some help.

After her doughnut, and after putting on her pajamas, it was present time!  Sam loves to open presents, so we got her a bunch of little things so she had packages to open.  Her table and chairs were nice, but they weren’t covered in wrapping paper!  Here she is opening her little Sesame Street figures — Elmo, Cookie Monster, Super Grover and Oscar the Grouch.

All in all, Sam had a great day and so did we!
