Mrs. Daddy

Well, I guess the marriage proposal Sam got from Franny at school didn’t mean a whole lot to her. She has moved on to bigger and better men. We were talking about weddings the other day and dresses and I said something to Sam about her own wedding. She told me, in no uncertain terms, that at her wedding, she is ONLY going to dance with her Daddy. She also told me I could be in the audience. Very nice of her. The subject came up again about weddings and she said the same thing about dancing so I asked her this time, “Sam, who are you going to marry?” She looked at me like I was crazy and gave me an unequivocal answer:  “Daddy!”

I know it’s pretty common for little girls to want to marry their Daddy and I think it is adorable that she reached this stage. She loves her Daddy so very much. I wish she knew how lucky she really is to have him. And I fervently hope that whoever she decides to marry, he is half the man that Mark is. And that he loves her half as much as Mark loves Sam. I know that when the time comes Mark and I will both have a strong opinion about any man who wants to be with our precious daughter. And I hope that our opinions will be positive because Sam makes good choices and chooses men who respect her, who love her, who see her value, her intelligence, all she has to offer. I don’t want to have to steer her away from bad men who are not good for her. I don’t want to be in a position opposite her when it comes to her relationships. I put my own parents in that position and I am sorry for that. I want to be supportive and happy for her and to be proud of her choices.

Sam, look for a man just like your Daddy. You’ll never go wrong, little girl. Never.
