Mother’s Day 2014

Happy Mother’s Day to me! I must say, Mother’s Day is NOT a holiday that I will ever say is overrated. It is awesome being a mom, and I mean that in the truest sense of the word, not the lame way that it gets tossed around today. I am truly, to use the words of Merriam-Webster, constantly in a state which is “causing feelings of fear and wonder; causing feelings of awe.” Being a mom is a lot of things, some good, some bad, but always worthwhile.
My Mother’s Day started off pretty early with presents. Sam is not good at waiting! This little flower pot is what she made me at school. She gave it to me a few days before Mother’s Day though since, well, I did just say she is not good at waiting. It was sent home in a nicely decorated bag, so she could have surprised me if she wanted to, but alas, she did not.
The next thing on her list really was a surprise. She made it for me a while ago and had it hidden away in her room somewhere. I will say she did a good job hiding it because with all of the cleaning and straightening I do, I never found it. I still can’t figure out why, but she calls it my “Kindle.” I wish I could figure out what she is talking about, but she was quite proud of her little face she made and I love it.
Sam helped me open all my gifts, of course. This one turned out to be some really great gardening tools. What seem like hardy, expensive ones, not the cheap shovels and tools I currently have that literally bend if you dig too hard. Perfect gift for my new veggie gardening! I also got a great gardening stool and some clothes.
My parents came over for dinner and we finished the present opening with my mom. Geez, Sam, could you let Grandmom open her own presents! 🙂
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms!
As I mentioned in Mark’s birthday post, see, we think alike. Same cat magnets. 🙂
Me and my other best girl, Zephyr.
Later that night, we went outside on the gorgeous day it was to take some family pictures. It was a beautiful day with my beautiful family, and I am so grateful.
Here’s Sammy, hanging out by her new swing. Thank you Samantha, for making me a mom. BEST JOB EVER.
One last picture from Mother’s Day – me and my Zephyr. Since we’d already had quite a bit of birthday cake, I bought a cheesecake for Mother’s Day dinner. I decided to have my dessert well after dinner, after Sam was asleep, while sitting on the couch watching tv. Zephyr was sleeping near me and it took her about 3.2 seconds to be almost in my lap. Cheese! In cake form! What!? Where has this been all her 15 years of life? I shared my snack with my girl, much like I used to do when she was a kitten and longed to try a bite of everything we ate. Thanks, Zephyr. You were my first baby, and I will never forget it!
