Vacation 2014, Day 5 – Pirate Ship and Ocean Fun
Posted By pamelamyers on July 14, 2014
Wednesday was a bit of a rainy day, just off and on, not enough to really keep us away. We all were determined to stay at the beach. Krista and Sam made some sand castles and we all had our usual fun.
I know Krista and Adam were happy to be at down the shore!
Ryder’s first day on the beach! He doesn’t look too impressed yet. Bottles are much more interesting to a baby.
The kids needed something to do, so Mark dug a giant hole, as they requested.
It took forever. No matter how deep and wide we made it, the kids wanted it bigger so we dug, dug, dug.
Eventually, we left it to them to keep digging. It was their hole!
Finally, when it was done, they took turns jumping in yelling, “Cannonball!”
And when jumping got boring, running around like maniacs works too. 🙂
At some point, Sam decided the hole was her pirate ship. We asked her to make her best pirate face. She is so funny. She makes the face and says, “Argghh, mateys!” She kept calling us scallywags.
Mark, the bad pirate, captured his prey and carted them off to the sea.
We finally decided to try to ocean on for size. It wasn’t too cold, although in past years it has been warmer!
Sam loves going in the water now. So few years ago she was scared to death to get her feet wet, now she kept yelling, “Let’s go deeper!”
Jumping over the waves is one of her favorite things to do.
Supergirl!
Not long before we left for day, Maddox and Sam spent some time running in the ocean, chasing waves.
It was getting chilly and windy and Sam wanted a hide out, so Mark made this one for her to protect her.
Not a bad fort!
Maddox found an abandoned boogie board and tried his hand at surfing. I love it! He has the stance just right!
As usual, the tide came in and started to flood the pirate ship a bit. The kids actually wanted it to flood so they asked me to make a ditch for the water to get in. Sam and Maddox decided to make their own ocean and Sam added some seaweed.
They were so happy when the water came up and filled the hole. I thought it would be disappointing, but nope. These kids always surprise me!
