The Tradition of the Light Show Continues
Posted By pamelamyers on December 2, 2014
This year my mom and I brought Sam to the Macy’s light show again, as we usually do. It has become quite the tradition, and I hope that Sam continues to want to go every year. I really love it and I am glad Sam loves it too.
Here’s our selfie, waiting for the show to begin!
The grand finale, when everything is lit. Still looks amazing after all these years! I managed to get the famous Eagle in the corner. 🙂
After the light show, we always head upstairs to the Dickens Village. Sam loves that as much as the light show. She kept asking us, can we go see the puppets? She looks in every window, and stood by a perfectly Sammy-sized door for a picture.
This year, she asked me a lot of questions about what the puppets meant, and why Scrooge kept saying he would change and who the ghosts were. I tried to explain the Christmas Carol story to her, but I am not sure how much she understood. I told her maybe we could watch The Muppets Christmas Carol movie this year. That’s sort of her speed.
We always meet my good friend, Debbi, for the light show every year. I am so glad she comes with us and gets to share the fun with Samantha.
After we were done at Macy’s, we ate lunch then headed over to the Christmas markets they have been setting up in Love Park. They have been doing it for a number of years, but we never thought Sam would want to walk over. This year we decided she can handle the stroll and we went. I knew it wouldn’t be like the amazing Christmas markets in Germany that Mark and I visited, but it gave Sam a taste of what it was like. I would love to be able to make a trip there some December when Sam is older so she can really experience it. I still say that no one does Christmas like Germany.
Here are a few of the stalls. It was similar to German Christmas markets, lots of Christmas things, handcrafted goods, and some food.
I was shocked to see a huge Kathe Wohlfahrt store set up! Mark and I have bought a ton of ornaments there in the past, in Germany of course!
After shopping, Sam started asking if she could watch the light show one more time. We always do, so we headed back to Macy’s for one last viewing. Sam had a good time watching the show and hugging her new unicorns that she conned Grandmom into buying her at the markets!
That’s it until next Christmas! See ya next time, Eagle!

It is one of the highlights of the holidays for me to experience the light show with Sam.
