Building with Pop Pop

I needed a bit of “me” time, so Mark took Sam over to his dad’s house yesterday so she could spend some time with her Pop Pop. Rich just got a new table saw and couldn’t wait to show it off to Mark. Knowing Sam would be bored bored bored without a project, Mark asked his dad if he would mind making something with Sam, with the saw, so that they could kill two birds with one stone. Of course he didn’t mind! Mark printed out some simple gingerbread family templates and they went off to cut them out. Originally, Mark cut out a gingerbread man and woman, and I told him, knowing Sam, she would want an entire family, so we quickly printed a small gingerbread girl and a cat, of course.
Sam is pretty good about wearing all her safety gear, eye and ear protection, as well as work boots, and she got all ready to go. Pop Pop explained how his new saw worked and Sam watched intently.
She wanted to help, but how much help she was is up for debate…
Rich has been working on making a rocking horse for the kids to play with and Sam loved it! I heard all about when they got home.
Rich’s little apprentice, on a break.
Here is the finished gingerbread Myers family! Sam made sure to show them all holding hands for the picture. 🙂 I love how she likes tools and making things as well as princesses and unicorns. I want her to know how to do useful things, to be able to take care of herself, and with Mark as her dad, and Rich as her Pop Pop, she is well on her way to being quite the handy little girl.

So sweet that Sam and her Pop Pop made those wooden figures together.
